February 24 - 28

Bacon Bears,

Its all about respect!

We have a lot going on this week. On Monday, 5th grade students in Mrs. Sutton's class and Mrs. Muhlbaier's class will be interviewing the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Pamm Moore. The purpose of this special event is for the students to talk to Dr. Moore about African Americans in Education. This question and answer session will be video taped and put on our blog.

This Tuesday, we are looking forward to hosting other elementary schools as they learn more about Reading Street. They will be visiting classes, and talking with teachers and students about the program.

Can you believe that we celebrated the 100th day of school this past Friday? Each of the classes celebrated in different ways, but constant of everyone is that we are all truly 100 days smarter :)

Teacher Spotlight:
On February 15, 2014, Mrs. Simpson was chosen to play with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Kimmel Center. She played in on 3 selections: Serenade in E-flat major, Op. 7, by Richard Strauss
Divertimento No. 1 in B-flat major by Franz Joseph Haydn
Petite Symphonie by Charles Gouno.

Her is a video from her performance. You can see her at 1:10:

Bacon Bears,

Its all about respect!

This week will be a Heart Healthy Week. We have a lot of activities planned and we are excited! Each day this week the students will learn a Heart Healthy fact. On Wednesday, we will be having our annual Pizza Bingo, but this year it will have a Valentines Day feel to it. On Friday we will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart and wearing Red. In addition, the 5th graders are selling Valentines Day Pencilgrams during lunch. So much love at RM Bacon!

Last week our Kindergartens started their annual Swim practice at the Holly City Family Center. Students learned the basics of water safety and how to listen to the lifeguards. Each week their confidence will grow!

February 3 - 7

Bacon Bears,

Its all about respect!

Reminder - There is no school on Monday due to staff in-service.

Last week the students and staff did an excellent job with the Kindness Week. Throughout the week, students committed themselves to being more kind to each other. During lunches, students were able to stop by the Kindness Station to make cards for other students and staff. In addition, the entire school put their hand prints on the Kindness Wall outside the cafeteria.

We held our monthly Bear Bucks Store on Friday. This month the Bear Buck Challenge was "Winter Wonderland." Students were allowed to (probably for the first time in the history of the school) to throw snowballs at a target. It was not an easy challenge, and only 11 students succeeded in hitting the target. Other students, instead of doing the challenge, bought items from the store, and a few have earned enough to have a Bear Buddy.
