November 28 - December 2, 2016

Bears,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  It's hard to believe that December begins on Thursday!  Wow - pardon the cliche, but this year is really flying by.

Last week, we welcomed our parents for two nights of parent-teacher conferences.  I'd like to thank the parents that showed up, the staff for being accessible and open to our parents, and our custodial staff for working around all of us during those two important nights.  The book store was open, and we even got to introduce Ms. Jordan Hess to her students' parents. I'd also like to thank the parents who took a few minutes to fill out the parent survey.  We appreciate your feedback!

Our half-day on Wednesday went smoothly, and it was a nice sendoff to our staff and students heading into the four day weekend.  Again, I trust that in whatever way you celebrated the holiday, it was a time of relaxation, catching up with family and friends, reflection, and thankfulness.

We've got a lot going on this week.  Our PBIS Pep Rally is on Tuesday, and we'll be celebrating the students' 1st marking period accomplishments.  Also, the Bear Bucks store will be open for business, and I'm certain our students will be ready to spend their well-earned bucks.  Finally, we have a little surprise for those students who received a PAWS UP during the month of November!

We have a SIP team meeting on Wednesday morning (please note - it's on a Wednesday this month due to the holiday), and we have a staff meeting on Thursday morning.

Important info on the Yankee Candle Sale (and spread the word!)

That's all for now.  Everyone have a great week at RM Bacon Elementary School...where's it always a great day to be a BACON BEAR!!

November 21 - 25, 2016

Bears,

"Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone."  G.B. Sterns

As I write this week's blog entry, I can't help but think how grateful I am for the honor and privilege of being in such a great school and great school district.  How I know this is true is simple - I like coming to school each and every day.  Sure, there are challenges and difficulties inherent in any job, but on the whole, when you like doing what you do and you like the people around you, you can't help but feel grateful.  I'm thankful to spend those hours with wonderful students and a wonderful staff.  This week, I ask...please, tell someone how grateful or thankful you are for them - a family member, a friend, someone you work with...anyone.  Those words are so impactful, and besides, it might just be that someone needs some encouragement.  You never know...

We had a great week at Bacon, but the Big Event was by far the FEAST! Seeing the school come together in one place to break bread and spend time together was awesome.  It made me thankful to be part of this school family, and it left quite an impression on me that I still feel. A big thanks to all who made this happen, and honestly, that's most of the school.  I'd also like to thank members of the Cumberland County Sheriffs Dept. and Millville Police Department for coming out to serve and partake in the festivities.  You are all appreciated.

The Week Ahead

Our parent-teacher conferences started last Friday, and they'll run until Tuesday. If you aren't sure of your appointment time or date for Monday or Tuesday, please call the school.

The book fair wraps on Wednesday.  If you haven't been down yet to check it out, please do so.  Parents, your child's classes have scheduled times, so make sure if your child is getting something, they are ready on the correct day.  If you have any questions, please reach out and let us know.

We have early dismissals Monday through Wednesday at 1:45.  And, of course, there is no school on Thursday or Friday.

And so, some parting words:

"Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be thankful, be grateful, be great.
Mike
