June 1 - June 5

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow and the Future!

Last week we honored our RM Bacon Alumni with the second Alumni Night. We had about 100 alumni come back to visit with us. Our program began with the chorus singing and dancing to a Hawaiian song. The kids did an amazing job! Then we enjoyed dinner and music. In the final part of the program we honored two alumni (Andy Colon, Tia Riviera) for their service to the community. We closed the program with our Silent Auction. All of the proceeds for the evening benefit current RM Bacon students.

Here is a video from the Alumni Night:

This week our students will showcase their art and music skills at the Spring Concert and Art Show on Monday, June 1, 2015. The Art Show will begin at 6:00 PM and the Spring Concert will begin at 7:00 PM.

On Wednesday, our Club 21 students will be performing the Lion King Experience. This process has been documented by Disney for an upcoming a Nightline Documentary. The performance will be at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, and there will be an encore performance for our students at 2:00 PM.

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow, and the Future!

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Do you know why we celebrate Memorial Day? Here is an excellent resource.

We had an excellent Fun Day and Olympic Day last Friday. The 4th and 5th graders did a phenomenal job of competing, and more importantly working as a team! At Fun Day, the students in K-3 got the opportunity to bounce, play and get wet on the slippery slides. A fun time was had by all!

This week the 4th graders will be taking the NJASK Science on Thursday morning. We are asking to have the school as quiet as possible during that time to allow the students to concentrate.

On Friday we will be hosting our second Alumni Night. There are still spots available. Please take advantage of this opportunity because the next Alumni Night is not scheduled until 2019 for our 90th anniversary. Tickets are free. All you have to do is call the front office (856) 327-6100 to reserve your spot.

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow and the Future!

This week will be very exciting. Our Bacon Bears will be participating in the Annual Olympic Day festivities at Memorial High School. We are looking forward to marching throughout the city to show our Bacon pride!

In addition to Olympic Day, our Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students will be participating in Fun Day. We will have lots of water, bouncy houses, and slides for the students to enjoy. The teachers have put in a lot of planning to make sure this event is enjoyable for all.

We are officially completed with the PARCC. All students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade finished their End of Year Assessments. Now we will wait to get the results. We are hoping to show a lot of growth in our scores!

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow, and the Future!

Happy Mother's Day to all our mothers in the RM Bacon Community!

Good luck to the 3rd graders this week as they take the End of the Year portion of the PARCC. We are hoping that everyone will be on time and present!

On Friday, Dr. Cook had two assemblies to discuss updates on discipline at RM Bacon. Traditionally, the end of the year presents many challenges for students, and we see a rise in minors, and major office discipline referrals. He challenged the students to break the cycle. During the assembly he reviewed the following:

  • Our rules are very simple... Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful.
  • Disruption comes in many forms, and the students shared what they have been seeing such as talking while the teacher is talking, getting out of seats without permission, and being disrespectful to other students and teachers.
  • We still have plenty of time left in the school year. We are focused on finishing out the year in the best way possible.
  • Respect all of our staff members the same.
  • We have a Tradition of Excellence! Let's make our parents, teachers, and community proud of RM Bacon Elementary!

Teacher Appreciation Week was a great success! Teachers were selected each day for early outs, They were treated to a breakfast by Dr. Cook on Thursday, and a luncheon by the HSA on Friday. One Wednesday of this week they will receive Free Massages from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM by Dr. Brooke.

There is still time to sign up for the Badminton Tournament sponsored by the 3rd grade class. Tournament begins at 5:00 PM. For more information, please email amanda.devita@millvillenj.gov

Bacon Bears,

Focusing on Today, Tomorrow, and the Future!

National Teacher Appreciation Week!!!!

We had an amazing turnout for our first May Day in the cafeteria. A big thank you to Ms. Candy, the 4th grade teachers, and the cafeteria staff for coordinating the event. We had representatives from the EMT, Millville PD, and the Cumberland County Sheriffs Department. The students were so impressed with the First Responders and how they took time to sit with them and eat lunch with them. Check out all the pictures below in the Pictures from Around the School section.

We have a few cool activities this week, On Wednesday, be sure to thank our school nurse (Ms. Pruett) because it is National Nurse's Day! On Friday, the staff will be wearing jeans for Anti Bullying. RM Bacon will be hosting the Hockey Shoot Out on Wednesday for the Donald "Ducky" Sharp Youth Week.

The Staff Meeting this week will be dedicated to revisiting your Genius. Take this time to reconnect with your project and prepare to share out your experience on June 4.

Good luck to the 4th graders as they take the End of the Year (EOY) PARCC Assessment!!!
