October 28 - Nov 1

Bacon Bears,

 It's all about respect!

We had another fantastic week here at RM Bacon. This was our first attempt at the Model Assessments and the teachers and students did a great job! Although we haven't analyzed the data yet, the more important aspect to the Model Assessments at this point is the implementation. In addition, the Model Assessments provide the teachers with an understanding of how they have taught the new curriculum.

This week looks to be another spooktacular week. We have the annual Halloween Frolic on Tuesday at 6:30 PM. One dollar per person allows you the opportunity for dancing, food, games and a haunted hay (straw) ride! Then, on Thursday, we will show off our Halloween costumes at 2:00 PM. This event will take place outside unless the weather doesn't cooperate.

PARENTS - We need your help. Please take this survey to share your perception RM Bacon. Be honest! We will celebrate those things we are doing well and attempt to improve concerns.

Last week (October 7 - 11)  we participated in Wellness Week. Ms. Spanbauer did a fantastic job of coordinating the week. Each day students and teachers reaffirmed their commitment to being healthy, living bully free and being respectful.

Bacon Wins a bronze... here is the Press Release:
To earn the National Recognition Award, the schools improved their nutrition services and physical activity programs to meet or exceed stringent standards set by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program. The Healthy Schools Program provides professional development to schools such as onsite and virtual training with school health experts, access to a customer support center, science-based resources, and success stories--at no cost--to more than 18,000 schools nationwide to help them reverse the childhood obesity epidemic. Schools are eligible for Bronze, Silver, or Gold National Recognition Awards based on their level of achievement. The Cumberland County schools were among 267 schools from around the country honored at the Healthy Schools Program Forum at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Ark.

Students at RM Bacon Elementary are showing off their healthier lunches as a result of school efforts to promote healthy options in the cafeteria and to encourage parents to only send in smart choices for classroom parties. Through daily physical activity breaks, recess, before school intramurals for students and afterschool fitness options for staff, this community feels like they are on track to become a school where students, staff, and families can thrive. School staff credit the Healthy Schools Program Framework and staff in helping the school set and meet realistic goals.
