Bacon Weekly - 2022-23 Recap

5th graders on their trip

Bacon Bears,

As the year comes to a close, it's time to reflect on our journey at Bacon Elementary School. 2022 - 23 was a momentous year for our school, filled with notable achievements, exciting events, and the outstanding dedication of our staff. Let's take a moment to celebrate the highlights of our successful year.

Bacon Elementary School began the year with a remarkable accomplishment, as we officially shed our previous comprehensive status and soared to new heights. With immense dedication and hard work, we surpassed expectations and got out of  comprehensive status into not in status from the NJDOE. In addition, we were recognized as a NJ School of Character. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our staff, students, and families towards fostering a positive and nurturing environment within our school community.

Throughout the year, Bacon Elementary School celebrated a series of engaging family events, further strengthening the bonds among our students, parents, and staff. Our PTO did an amazing job of fundraising and coordinating several events for our community. From the Halloween Frolic to the the Winter Dance, our school was a hub of excitement and laughter. Pizza Bingo brought together families for a fun-filled evening, fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit. Moreover, the Winter and Spring concerts as well as the Art Show showcased the incredible talents of our students. These events not only provided entertainment but also reinforced the sense of belonging and camaraderie within the Bacon Elementary School family.

At Bacon Elementary, we are proud to honor our outstanding educators who go above and beyond to shape the minds and futures of our students. This year, we proudly presented Mrs. Lunemann as our esteemed Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Lunemann's dedication, passion, and innovative teaching methods have inspired and empowered countless young minds. Additionally, we applaud Ms. Veale, our exceptional Educational Service Provider, for her invaluable contributions to the growth and development of our students. Their unwavering commitment and enthusiasm make Bacon Elementary School a center of excellence in education.

This year, we bid farewell to two remarkable individuals who have dedicated their careers to Bacon Elementary School. Mrs. Cheeseman and Mrs. Stowman, upon their retirement, leave behind a legacy of compassion, wisdom, and lifelong learning. Their contributions to our school community will be cherished and remembered for years to come. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their years of service and wish them a fulfilling and joyful retirement.

Bacon Elementary School's commitment to academic excellence has been evident through our Annual School Plan. Unfortunately, we did not make our goals for LAL, Social and Emotional Learning and DIBELS. We did meet our Math goal. In the beginning of the year, we had only 21% of the students reading at grade level and by the end of the year, our students' reading proficiency grew to 60% students and an average of 1.3 years of growth achieved through the ARC program.  Our Math Interim assessments for 3rd to 5th Grades soared to an impressive 37.8%, surpassing the target of 30%. These achievements reflect the collaborative efforts of our dedicated educators, diligent students, and supportive families.

As we conclude this remarkable year, Bacon Elementary School stands tall, with a renewed sense of purpose and achievement. From reclaiming our NJDOE status to becoming a NJ School of Character, organizing memorable family events, and recognizing exceptional individuals, our school has truly flourished. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our entire school community for their unwavering support, dedication, and commitment to fostering a nurturing and inspiring educational environment. With anticipation and enthusiasm, we look forward to embarking on another successful year at Bacon Elementary School, creating lifelong memories and shaping the future of our students.

Then, Now, Always Family!

We will update the blog periodically in the summer and you can look out for more frequent posts in mid to late August.

Bacon Weekly - June 5 - 9, 2023

K-2 Champ Lillian with Student Council

Bacon Bears,

We are BEARS! (Be Excited About Reading in Schools)

This week, our Student Council held a very competitive Fundraiser. The students, along with their advisor Ms. Holiday, coordinated the first Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament. We were able to raise nearly $160 for Student Council!  Hopefully next year we can reach our goal to create a Little Free Library for our school. Congrats to Lilliana Gandy (2nd) and Shaquan Brown (3rd) for winning their rounds of the tournament! We are hoping to have a Staff Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament and then the winners can determine who is ultimate champion of Bacon School!

This past week our Kindergarten friends visited Ocean City on one of the nicest days of the year. The students were able to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean, play in the sand, and soak in some sun! Thank you to the Kindergarten staff for keeping everyone safe!
