October 29 - November 2, 2018

Bears,

Yes, you read that right.  Next week brings in November.  Impossible, I know.  This year is ripping by. Hopefully you are all able to slow down a little, be grateful for the people and moments that make life so special, and take every opportunity to live in those moments as they come.

This week, our annual Frolic took place, and we had great feedback thanks to the dedication from our staff to providing our students and families a fun night out.  Pretty much the entire staff at Bacon played some part in this event - from the set up to the clean up and all parts in-between.  Thank you all for what you brought to this yearly tradition.  Kim Berry organized all efforts, Candy Devich made sure the food was in place, and countless others did their parts.  We'd like to thank the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for security, the Millville Police for use of their Explorers, the Millville Fire Department for the light tower, and mother nature for the rocks (for painting) and for giving us a beautiful, seasonal night.

We have another busy week ahead of us - an assembly, costume parade, staff meeting, and the color run.  It looks like another great five days at Bacon.

The Week Ahead

October 22 - 26, 2018

Bears,

It's a great day to be a Bear - every single day!  Learning is taking place, the students are doing great things, and our staff members are continually dedicated to being the best they can be.

And speaking of being the best...

One of our own, Kim Taylor, recently competed in a body-building competition.  This was the culmination of months of intense, focused training on top of years of dedicated fitter and healthier living.  The build-up to last weekend was grueling, and the sacrifice necessary to compete was something most people would find too much.  In short, she placed 1st in her category and placed very well in the overall rankings beyond her division.  That's awesome and something she can honestly say most people have never done, let alone attempted.

Also this week, our district wrapped up a three-day brain-based workshop hosted by the Franklin Institute.  From Bacon, four people were able to attend the sessions which began last spring.  The information covered was all about learning how to focus learning and purposefully tap into the science of learning as it relates to brain development, memory, and processing.  In the not-to-distant future, we hope to convey this info to the rest of the staff in order to help our teachers be more effective educators and our students be more effective learners.

One of the busiest and most-exciting events of the year is nearly upon us.  Our annual Fall Frolic is on Wednesday from 6-8.  This year's event promises to be another crowd pleaser.  We hope to see you there.

Looking a little beyond - the week of Halloween will be busy as well.  We have our monthly PBIS assembly, and our costume parade will be later in the week.

The Week Ahead

October 8 - 12, 2018

Bears,

Where's fall?  The calendar says October, and it's technically autumn, but it's hard to get in the fall frame of mind with temps in the 80's.  Summer lovers are probably enjoying this last (hopefully) shot of warmth, but there are those of us who are ready for the seasonal shift.  Where do you stand on this all-important debate?

Anyway, back to Bacon.  As usual, it was a busy but good week.  We'd like to thank the Millville Fire Department for their annual fire safety visit.  They do a great job with our Bears, and we look forward to when they come each year.  Thank you for all you do, and thank you for keeping us safe!

Also this week, we had a district-wide PD day on Wednesday.  In the morning, all staff members had a workshop on how to incorporate puppets into their lessons to teach empathy and encourage social-emotional development.  The workshop was fun, but the lessons were powerful.

We've got a pretty busy month ahead of us.  Be sure to check the calendar and upcoming dates to stay on top of things.  And as always, enjoy the pics.

This week's thought:  Too many people focus on the summit of the mountain and not the mountain itself.  To enjoy the summit and the view, you can't skip the climb, and the only way to climb is one step at time. -- paraphrased from Olympic champion Scott Hamilton's Book Finish First
