December 9 - 13
Bacon Bears,
It's all about respect!
Our first week in December went very well. We participated in the annual Coats for Kids. Students were put in a lottery and those who won were taken to the Millville Motorsports Complex for a free coat and lunch!
Here are some of the pictures from the event:
This week, students and staff will be continuing to prepare for the holidays. There are a lot of integrated lessons that are comparing/contrasting various holidays around the world, as well as activities designed to connect student learning to the real world!
In preparation for the holidays, our staff has been decorating the front foyer.
Our Mom's Night Out was an amazing success! Thanks to coordinators Mrs. Lore and Mrs. Benson who were able to get over 20 vendors, prizes and even activities for the kids while the moms were shopping. We had many staff and parents assist with the evening, and according to Mrs. Benson, "We could never have pulled this off without the help and support of the parents and teachers!" Here are some pictures from the event:

Weekly recap
We hosted Superintendent Joe Sanfelippo from Wisconsin on Monday, November 25, 2013. He did a podcast with Dr. Gentile in Mr. Hudson's class. The students did a great job researching and asking questions. It was a true 21st century learning experience. Here is the video
Dr. Sanfelippo also visited Mrs. Devita's class. He delivered Enemy Pie in a way that had the students captivated! Here is the video:
We also hosted Ms. Berry's niece Sarah, who talked to the 4th and 5th grade students about potential careers working with animals.
On Friday, November 29 RM Bacon students took to the streets of Millville for the Holiday Parade. This was our first float and it was epic! Thanks to Ms. Berry for the idea and implementation! I want to express my sincere gratitude to Ms. Berry, Ms. Tommi-Lynn, Mrs. Devita, Mrs. Polof and Mrs. Klaudi for assisting with the float and the parade... Mr. Lokey did a lot of the behind the scenes work to ensure the float was properly assembled and Mrs. Peck did the artwork! The student leaders and the safety patrol were fantastic! They kept the chant "Let's go Bacon, Let's go" the entire route!

It's all about respect!
Last week we participated in Sneaker Week. Teachers wore sneakers and donated money to a worthy cause! In addition, we had a "friendly" competition throughout the grade levels. Teachers wore pedometers and charted their progress. Ms. Berry, our PBIS Aide, kept her pedometer on all day to see how many steps she took. Amazingly, by the end of the day, she had 12,000 steps! Wow!
In addition to Sneaker Week, RM Bacon held its annual Turkey Feast for the students and invited guests. I want to give a big shout out to the coordinators of the Feast, Mrs. Sutton and Ms. Sawyer! Everyone had a wonderful time! It was truly a team effort in that teachers and parents helped cook and serve, donated food and desserts. Student Leaders and Safety Patrol members assisted with set up and helped serve food as well!
Here is a powerful video by Mrs. Sinone and her students about Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
On Thursday, we held our monthly PBIS Bear Bucks Store! Students who earned Bear Bucks throughout the month were able to shop for rewards or take on the monthly challenge. This month, the challenge was "Its Dicey."
Dr. Cook took the "Its Dicey" challenge. Must be the beard! |
This week we will be having early dismissals each day. On Monday, and Tuesday our teachers will be hosting Parent-Teacher Conferences from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. On Wednesday, we will begin our Thanksgiving break at 1:45 PM.
Students of the Week |
This week we also are hosting the Scholastic Book Fair. Students will be able to purchase books during their regularly scheduled Library time. Parents are encouraged to shop in the Book Fair during Parent Conferences!

Bacon Bears,
Its all about respect!
Last week was one to remember... We had an epic Halloween Frolic. There were over 425 people who attended and everyone reported to having a great time. Our guests enjoyed the food, games, dancing and especially the Haunted Hay Ride. I want to thank Mrs. Benson and Mr. Hudson for coordinating the event. It couldn't have happened without the rest of the staff, parents, and community.
In addition, we had our annual Halloween Parade on Thursday. The kids "experienced" the Wizard of Oz. Some teachers dressed up as characters from the Wizard of Oz, and somehow the Wizard was in the building... Who was behind the curtain?
Here is a video created by Mrs. DeVita in case you missed the Frolic or the Parade:
This week is shortened due to the New Jersey Education Association's (NJEA) Annual Convention in Atlantic City. On Thursday and Friday, teachers will expand their learning and connect with other teachers from around the state.
