February 22 - 26, 2016

Bacon Bears,

6:00 PM on Feb 24th

Can you believe that we are in the last full week of February? Time is really flying at RM Bacon. This week we will be hosting our annual Pizza Bingo in the Bacon Gym. This is one of our signature events, and certainly one you do not want to miss. We will have Pizza in the cafeteria at 6:00 PM and at 6:30 PM the Bingo will begin. There are a lot of prizes so make sure to come out and support the school. The cost is 1 dollar to enter. Additional Bingo sheets are 5 dollars, and 1 dollar for Dabbers.

We are also excited about the upcoming PBIS meeting and Bear Bucks store/challenge on Tuesday. Teachers, don't forget to choose your Golden Bear Buck Winner for February based on Responsibility. Next Monday, on February 29th, we will be recognizing all of the efforts of RM Bacon students and staff at the Respect the 29th Assembly (2:00 PM).

This week was another awesome week at Bacon School both in the classroom and out.  As far as in the classroom, I was able to work with Mr. Drewnowski’s 5th grade math class.  During this time, we were able to teach math together.  Mr. Drewnowski divided his class into groups with centers that all revolved around adding and subtracting fractions with uncommon denominators.  It was exciting to see not only Mr. Drewnowski’s passion for math but also his students.  Each student had a task to complete that were differentiated based on their skill set.  By the end of the lesson, each student was able to show their understanding of the math topic based on the work they had completed.  This was an awesome experience and I look forward to seeing how the students’ progress with this particular skill.

When it came to out of the classroom, on Thursday our staff participated in our first ever Edcamp style staff meeting.  Here is a link for what an Edcamp looks like.  This was a great time for all of our teachers to talk, share, and work together for the betterment of ourselves and school.  The topics covered were Math SGOs, Writing in Reading Street, Technology Integration, and PBIS.  Overall, the teachers were highly engaged and really pushed one another’s thinking.  My favorite part was that our teachers were leading the conversations to help one another within our building.  I truly feel believe that most of the answers to our questions are found within our building.  Stay tuned for our next Edcamp meeting and the topics that will be discussed.
