This week we will be finishing up NJASK Make-ups for any student who was absent. Since the make-ups will be taking place, we will be maintaining our building wide testing plan. After make-ups are completed, we are looking forward to Olympic Day and Fun Day on Friday! Students in grade 4 and 5 will be competing against the 5 other elementary schools in Millville. Students in grade K-3 will be involved in Fun Day! They will have water slides, bouncy houses, and all types of activities for them to just have FUN!

We are one week away from the NJASK. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 are making a few last minute preparations for next week's big assessment. Our teachers are making sure that their classrooms are "standardized" and that desks are in rows.
In addition to the NJASK preparation, our teachers are busy making their summative evaluation meetings with Dr. Cook. This year is a little different then in the past because we are using the McREL evaluation tool. Teachers are reflecting on the school year and planning for next year.

As
you know, this week is our Spring Book Fair, students are encouraged to attend
the book fair during their library time. This is a "buy one get one
free" fair. If for some reason there isn't a parent volunteer during your
library time students
with money will be allowed to set aside their choice and I will
collect their money and check them out later. Students who do not have money
will have a chance to look and write down a book they are interested
in.
It is hard to believe that April is over this week and we are entering the "assessment" season of May. In just a few short weeks, our students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be taking the NJASK. The results of the NJASK are taken very seriously by the school, district and the New Jersey Department of Education. Although there is no "cramming" for the NJASK, there will be a slight change in your child's instruction because teachers will be focusing on test taking strategies and "prep" for the test.
Last week we made the best of the two days given back to us due to the winter weather. On Friday, we hosted our annual Earth Day celebrations. Students in 3-5 went to see the movie Bears. Upon returning to school, the students did activities based on the movie. Some students watched a live web cam of real bears searching for food. Students in K-2 participated in hands-on activities that included planting flowers, making paper, and painting a mural. A big thank you goes to everyone who assisted with the Earth Day festivities. A special shout out to Mrs. Peck for organizing!!!!!
