Thankfully, we dodged Hurricane Joaquin! Our safety patrol students did get to do their first rainy dismissal!
This week the teacher observations will begin. We will also have Mrs. Mackall stopping by on Thursday to help out with any specific questions teachers may have about One Drive. Also, there is no school on Friday due to teacher professional development.
Parents - The October newsletter was sent home with your child on Wednesday. Please contact the front office if you didn't receive one.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This year we are encouraging everyone to wear pink on Fridays. We are partnering with Girl Scout Daisy & Brownie troop 51008 to bring some joy to those who are going through chemotherapy at local hospitals. Mrs. Lunemann is collecting materials so you can drop them off to Room 3. Here is the quick list of supplies by grade level:
Kindergarten - Lemonheads or Tart Candy (Helps reduce bad taste in mouth due to the Chemo treatments)
1st Grade - Small Lotion, chap stick, hand sanitizer
2nd Grade - Small Chocolates
3rd Grade - Word Find or puzzle books
4th and 5th Grade - Fuzzy Socks, scarves for heads. (These items help keep patients warm during their chemo sessions)
Please note that these are suggestions. If you want to bring in something listed in another grade, that is no problem at all.
October is also Connected Educators Month. Dr. Cook wrote a blog post that was published in Education Week - Check out the article here.

It is hard to believe that we are completing our first month of school! We are really in the swing of things at RM Bacon. In many ways, the first few weeks of school have been refreshing, and in other ways it has been exhausting!
Our teachers and students have been working very hard to establish routines as well as follow the curriculum.
Fall Intramurals will be starting very soon. This Fall the kids in 3-5 will be playing a unique game called VolleyThrow. Students who are interested should see Ms. Bieri or Mr. Hudson for more information.
In the next few weeks we will be starting our enrichment clubs for all grades. Stay tuned for more information.

Last week was very special as we welcomed the parents to Back to School Night with a Clap In and a very important announcement about our Adopt a School Program. Parents were so surprised by the turn out from the community, teachers, and administrators for our first Clap In. We hope that all parents know that we are partners in education!
Check out the video from the Clap In!
This week's video update was provided by one of the leading presenters in education, Baruti Kafele. He is a recipient of the National Alliance of Black School Educators Hall of Fame Award, the New Jersey Education Association Award of Excellence and the prestigious Milken National Educator Award, Principal Baruti Kafele is ON FIRE! He’s one of the most sought-after presenters for transforming the attitudes of at-risk student populations in America.
Principal Kafele was so excited to hear about how committed RM Bacon is to being the best school, he took a few minutes to provide an inspiring message.... JUST FOR US!

This will be a special week! We are hosting our annual Back to School Night on Tuesday. As the parents arrive, we will be having a "Clap In" featuring teachers, community leaders, and other volunteers. We want to make sure that the parents are celebrated for their role at our AWESOME school!
Last week we had a lot of activities happening throughout the school. We had our annual Fire Drills and Security Drills. The students and teachers did a great job! On Friday, Dr. Cook participated in the "#principalsinaction" movement. Principals from around the world are showing students that they can have fun too.
The Weekly Video took a step forward this week. We used TouchCast to make the video feel more like a "studio." Dr. Cook admits that he is still learning the app, and hopes to learn more each week. Thank you to Thomas and Alyssia for delivering a great message!

We had an unbelievable first three days of school! As we celebrated our 86th opening, we officially welcomed the Kindergarten class of 2028! At the opening day ceremony we had approximately 100 parents and families visit classrooms and meet their teachers. There was a lot of excitement in the air!
During the first few days, the teachers spent a lot of time getting to know the students and reviewing the expectations for the year. This time was well spent, and the teachers made sure to make the students feel as comfortable as possible.
On Friday, we had our annual PBIS Kick Off Assembly. Dr. Cook reviewed the expectations and rules for the school. We make it very simple as the rules are to Be Safe, Responsible and Respectful. Dr. Cook showed the students a message from the President (Kid President). Check out that video and tell someone today that they are AWESOME!
Our 5th graders are ready to lead the school, and their first order of business was to revive the RM Bacon Weekly Video. Kendall and Cecely kicked off the broadcast with a review of their summer, favorite things about 5th grade and the weekly news!
Many teachers shared their activities on our Social Networking sites. Make sure to follow the #rmbacon to see the awesome activities in real time. Like our school on Facebook and connect with us on Instagram! We had so many pictures this week, we had to put it into an Animoto.... Enjoy

Each day we continue to check things off the summer "to do" list. Our maintenance crew has been super busy with last minute projects. Early this week the stairwell near the parking lot side will be closed due to painting.
Our front office staff have been busy preparing all of the class lists, parent letters, and first day of school packets. Please note, teachers and parents were sent welcome back letters with important information. If you did not receive this information, please contact the front office (856-327-6100).
