November 21 - 25, 2016

Bears,

"Silent gratitude isn't much use to anyone."  G.B. Sterns

As I write this week's blog entry, I can't help but think how grateful I am for the honor and privilege of being in such a great school and great school district.  How I know this is true is simple - I like coming to school each and every day.  Sure, there are challenges and difficulties inherent in any job, but on the whole, when you like doing what you do and you like the people around you, you can't help but feel grateful.  I'm thankful to spend those hours with wonderful students and a wonderful staff.  This week, I ask...please, tell someone how grateful or thankful you are for them - a family member, a friend, someone you work with...anyone.  Those words are so impactful, and besides, it might just be that someone needs some encouragement.  You never know...

We had a great week at Bacon, but the Big Event was by far the FEAST! Seeing the school come together in one place to break bread and spend time together was awesome.  It made me thankful to be part of this school family, and it left quite an impression on me that I still feel. A big thanks to all who made this happen, and honestly, that's most of the school.  I'd also like to thank members of the Cumberland County Sheriffs Dept. and Millville Police Department for coming out to serve and partake in the festivities.  You are all appreciated.

The Week Ahead

Our parent-teacher conferences started last Friday, and they'll run until Tuesday. If you aren't sure of your appointment time or date for Monday or Tuesday, please call the school.

The book fair wraps on Wednesday.  If you haven't been down yet to check it out, please do so.  Parents, your child's classes have scheduled times, so make sure if your child is getting something, they are ready on the correct day.  If you have any questions, please reach out and let us know.

We have early dismissals Monday through Wednesday at 1:45.  And, of course, there is no school on Thursday or Friday.

And so, some parting words:

"Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be thankful, be grateful, be great.
Mike

November 14 - 18, 2016

Bears,

Special Edition!  Welcome to a shortened blog due to the three day school week.  Just because we were only here three days last week doesn't mean we weren't busy.  Let's get to it!

On Tuesday, I attended the district Leadership Team meeting.  As always, it was great to touch base other district administrators and leaders.  I'm proud to serve on such a great team, and good things are in the works here in Millville.  Stay tuned.

Tuesday afternoon saw the return of the Color Run.  Everyone who participated had a messy but great time.  Check out the pictures below.

On Wednesday morning, we had our PBIS events committee meeting.  Mrs. Cheeseman, Ms. Berry, Cassy from the RAC, and I did a lot of planning for our PBIS Pep Rally later this month.  The first marking period just ended, so we will be recognizing those students who made the honor roll and principal's lists.  We'll also be recognizing students who have perfect attendance, and there will even be a little surprise for students who received a PAWS UP this month.  Right after the rally, we'll be having our Bear Bucks store in the gym.

Also on Wednesday morning, Dina and I had our first session with our time coach.  He said we are progressing well in the SAMs process (our new time-track system), and we received useful feedback that will help us be even more efficient and focused on increasing my time on instructional matters during the day.

See you soon.
