November 6 - 10, 2017

Together, we can.  Together, we will!

Bears,

First, some cool news.  Last week, this blog had over 600 views, the most since I've been principal of this great school.  Whether people are coming here for upcoming events, news of the week, pictures, announcements, or whatever, people keep coming and people keep checking.  I'm sure several of those 600+ views are individuals who visit here more than once to double-check a date or remind themselves of some info.  Whatever the case, that's good news, and it means that what is offered here keeps people coming back.   Staff and Bacon families - that being said, is there anything else you'd like to see featured on the blog?  Leave a comment below or on this Facebook post and let me know.  If it's something that's realistic and it makes sense, we'll take a look at adding it.  Thanks for all the views!

Last week, we had our PBIS assembly.  The theme of the day was respect.  Students and staff were able to share ideas of what respect means to them, and some even gave accounts of when a student or staff member demonstrated respectful behavior.  We then had our challenge of the month: putting together a jack-o-lantern face.  Each player was given a card that featured a face, and all the faces were different.  The challenge was to find pieces (eyes, nose, and mouth) that matched their cards so they could make a matching face.   The pieces were in the middle of the gym, and each player had to find the pieces that matched the face on their card, grab the piece, run across the gym to their pumpkins, and put together a much bigger version of the face on their card.  At the end of the event, the staff played their own round.  All had a great time!

On Tuesday, we had our annual Halloween costume parade.  All the students who wore costumes were able to march around our gym with their classes.  The students had fun showing off their outfits, and the staff had even more fun showing off theirs.

Remember, this is a short week coming up.  Enjoy the three-day school week, and enjoy the four-day weekend.

Oct 30 - Nov 3, 2017

Together, we can. Together, we will!

Bears,

It was another great week here at RM Bacon Elementary School!

Our annual Fall Halloween Frolic was another huge success.  It was teamwork all around as staff members, students (from Bacon and Millville High School), parents, members of the community, and local businesses stepped up to help make this a great Frolic.

Special thanks to...

  • Our students for helping set up and clean up when it was all said and done
  • Students from MHS and Millville Police Department officers and explorers for working the stations
  • The Millville Fire Department for use of their light tower
  • Members of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for providing security for the event
  • The parents who came early and stayed late to help set up and run various activities
  • The Bacon staff for planning, setting up, reaching out to parents and community members, and doing the million things needed to get this done.  We'd also like to thank our awesome custodial crew for helping sort out the aftermath.
A big shout-out to Tep's Power Equipment (www.tepspower.com) for lending us a generator for the event free of charge.  Check them out at 1007 N. High St. in Millville.  Bacon school thanks you, and we appreciate your generosity.

Truly, the Frolic was an all-hands-on-deck event, and Bacon school is fortunate to have such able and willing helping hands at times like these.  Thank you all!

Speaking of the Millville Fire Department -- members of the MFD were here on Thursday and Friday to teach our students about fire safety.  Thank you for your dedication to our students and community.

October 23 - 27, 2017

Together, we can.  Together, we will!

Bears,

It's hard to believe we are already in the home stretch of October.  No doubt the May-like temps are keeping a damper on the autumnness we should be feeling, and that's helping to make October race by.  Thankfully, this harvest heat-wave will break just in time for our annual frolic.  So, here's to Fall - finally.  The calendar says it's been here for a while, but the weather looks like it will eventually get in line.

And...Like the words above say, no matter what happens here at Bacon, we are in this together.  From the best weeks to the occasional tough weeks, we face them together as family.  Family pulls together and gets done what needs to get done, and we all know what gets done - providing a safe, quality learning experience for all our students every single day.  Every Monday begins another week of opportunities for our learners.  Our little bears are our "why."  They inspire and motivate what we do day-in and day-out.

Staff, keep it up.  Together, we can be the best!  And together, we will!

Weekly Recap
Last Thursday, over 70 people came out for Bacon's Family Game Night.  A big thanks goes out to Connecting Families to Communities for sponsoring the event and setting up the gym as a big play area.  It was great seeing the students and their families get in some "board" time.  All who attended had a wonderful evening!

Also on Thursday, Linda Santiago from CSI 3 (formerly RAC team 7) was on hand during our staff meeting while K-5 teachers set student goals and input F&P data.  She'll also be at our staff meeting on 11/1 (please note - this is a Wednesday and a departure from our usual Thursday staff meetings) in order to keep the conversation going on Guided Reading and Running Records.  We'd like to thank Linda for her dedication to Bacon school and for her help in making Bacon an excellent place of learning.
