November 20 - 24, 2017

Bears,

Welcome to Thanksgiving week!  In all the day-in, day-out busyness that is 21st century life, let's not forget to reflect on those things that matter - the things for which we are thankful.  I know I'm certainly thankful to work in such a fine school surrounded by caring professionals who selflessly give their time, talents, and resources to our learners.  I'm also thankful to be able to walk down the hall and see the smiling faces of our Bears each and every day.  It's an awesome job and an awesome responsibility that none of us take likely.

So, what are you thankful for?  And maybe more importantly, do you allow your thanks to give way to gratitude?  And do you then turn that gratitude into motivation to give back, give more, be kinder, be more understanding, work harder, enjoy life more?  It could go on and on, but the point is there - thankfulness should inspire us to be better, to be more reflective and appreciative, and to be more gracious with others.

Recap
Our FEAST went off splendidly last week.  See the pics below.  All had a great time!  Special thanks to Candy and the entire cafeteria staff for all their hard work, and a big shout out to Mrs. Muhlbaier for planning and organizing the logistics of the event.  Everything went off without a hitch, and most importantly, our students had a great time.  Also, thanks to all the district administrators and law enforcement officers who joined us.  Let's do it again...next year!

Our parent/teacher conferences are off to a good start.  We have two more days - Monday and Tuesday (both 6-8 pm).  Parents, while you are at school, please feel free to fill out a survey to let us know how we are doing.  The surveys are computer-based, and they will be set up in the hall near the main office.  Thank you!

November 13 - 17, 2017

Together, we can.  Together, we will!

Bears,

Excuse me - I mustache you a question.  Are we having fun yet?  Our dedicated and extremely hardworking staff members know how to put the learning pedal-to-the-metal while keeping it fun.  We know you can't please all people all the time, but I'm happy to say that as I walk around the school and visit class rooms, the vast majority of students and staff are smiling and enjoying what they do.  I tend to think happiness is more a decision than a by-product, but either way...staff, whatever you are doing to keep yourselves smiling and motivated, keep doing it!  Our students deserve it.

We are back to a full week this upcoming week. As impossible as it seems, Thanksgiving is just beyond this set of Monday through Fridays.

November 6 - 10, 2017

Together, we can.  Together, we will!

Bears,

First, some cool news.  Last week, this blog had over 600 views, the most since I've been principal of this great school.  Whether people are coming here for upcoming events, news of the week, pictures, announcements, or whatever, people keep coming and people keep checking.  I'm sure several of those 600+ views are individuals who visit here more than once to double-check a date or remind themselves of some info.  Whatever the case, that's good news, and it means that what is offered here keeps people coming back.   Staff and Bacon families - that being said, is there anything else you'd like to see featured on the blog?  Leave a comment below or on this Facebook post and let me know.  If it's something that's realistic and it makes sense, we'll take a look at adding it.  Thanks for all the views!

Last week, we had our PBIS assembly.  The theme of the day was respect.  Students and staff were able to share ideas of what respect means to them, and some even gave accounts of when a student or staff member demonstrated respectful behavior.  We then had our challenge of the month: putting together a jack-o-lantern face.  Each player was given a card that featured a face, and all the faces were different.  The challenge was to find pieces (eyes, nose, and mouth) that matched their cards so they could make a matching face.   The pieces were in the middle of the gym, and each player had to find the pieces that matched the face on their card, grab the piece, run across the gym to their pumpkins, and put together a much bigger version of the face on their card.  At the end of the event, the staff played their own round.  All had a great time!

On Tuesday, we had our annual Halloween costume parade.  All the students who wore costumes were able to march around our gym with their classes.  The students had fun showing off their outfits, and the staff had even more fun showing off theirs.

Remember, this is a short week coming up.  Enjoy the three-day school week, and enjoy the four-day weekend.
