January 13 - 17

Bacon Bears,

It's all about respect...

Last week was one for the record books. We survived Arctic temperatures, broken heaters, extreme ice, and a lock down. It seems that no matter what the obstacle, our students and staff were able to overcome and flourish.

The extreme cold Arctic air on Tuesday provided for a great deal of patience. I admired how students and parents braved these conditions and still came to school!

We only lost some materials that can be replaced
Unfortunately, Tuesday evening the cold was too much for one of our heaters. The pipes froze and broke which ended up flooding Mrs. Taylor's room and part of the cafeteria. Our maintenance staff from throughout the district came to Bacon to assist. The next day (Wednesday) we had to move Mr. Drewnowski's class and Mrs. Taylor's class. Then, right before the announcements, Mrs. Muhlbaier's heater froze and the pipes flooded part of Mr. Hudson's class. Throughout the day we monitored the heaters with such precision in case anything else would happen. Fortunately, nothing did!

On Friday morning, staff and students were required to take their time entering and exiting the building because of an ice storm. Throughout the area there were many accidents, but thankfully our staff and students were safe. Then, approximately 3:00 PM, we heard what appeared to be gun shots across the street. In order to be cautious, we called the Millville Police and went into a lock down. Once the Millville Police determined it was a car back firing, we came out of the lock down. All told, the lock down lasted about 6 minutes.

In addition to all of the activities listed above, our students completed their Model Assessments for Unit 2. We didn't miss a beat!

This week the students will be assessed through our annual RtI Universal Sweeps. Students in Kindegarten through 4th grade will be "swept" throughout the week. The information gathered from the Universal Sweeps will help us decide who needs Basic Skills Instruction. Good luck students and try your best!

January 2 and 3, 2014

Bacon Bears,

It's all about respect!

Welcome to 2014! With the New Year we all have an opportunity to make changes, as well as improve our well being. As a school, we will continue on our road to world class education!

I know we are all excited to come back off of the long break. Fortunalty, this week is short and there is not much on the calender. I am sure teachers and students will work together to shake the cobwebs from the Winter Break and start anew!

Here is a short and cute video for the new year... I hope you enjoy!

This is the final week of 2013. When we return from the Holiday Break we will be in the year 2014! Yet, we still have a lot of work to do in 2013... 5 full days!!!!

Join us for the Winter Concert on Monday, December 16, 2013 @ 7:00 PM. Come out and support the Fine and Performing Arts Department at RM Bacon.

We will have our annual Holiday Shoppe this week for students to purchase items for their families. The Holiday Shoppe will be open for the Winter Concert as well.

An Impact to Remember - Recently, senior Abby Damico, was charged with selecting the person who had the most impact on her during throughout her education in Millville. Abby selected our own Mrs. Sutton! When asked why she chose Mrs. Sutton, Abby said that Mrs. Sutton always held high expectations for her. This is a great honor.. congratulations Mrs. Sutton!

Our first week in December went very well. We participated in the annual Coats for Kids. Students were put in a lottery and those who won were taken to the Millville Motorsports Complex for a free coat and lunch!

This week, students and staff will be continuing to prepare for the holidays. There are a lot of integrated lessons that are comparing/contrasting various holidays around the world, as well as activities designed to connect student learning to the real world!

In preparation for the holidays, our staff has been decorating the front foyer.

Our Mom's Night Out was an amazing success! Thanks to coordinators Mrs. Lore and Mrs. Benson who were able to get over 20 vendors, prizes and even activities for the kids while the moms were shopping. We had many staff and parents assist with the evening, and according to Mrs. Benson, "We could never have pulled this off without the help and support of the parents and teachers!"
