This past week was an amazing experience for our Fine and Performing Arts Department at RM Bacon. On Monday, students were able to showcase their artistic talents to their parents and friends during the Art Show. Each student had their artwork displayed along with their classmates. The art work will remain up for the next few weeks, so if you were unable to attend be sure to stop by the school. A BIG thanks to Ms. Peck for all that she did to make the Art Show a memorable experience!
Later on Monday evening, the Band and Chorus students treated the packed Bacon Gym to a memorable concert. There were over 30 Band students who displayed the results of a year of hard work. The students played advanced songs and wowed the crowd with their final piece. After the Band completed their performance, the Chorus students entered the Bacon Gym. Similar to the Band, the students displayed their talent and hard work for all to see. They hit the high notes, low notes and displayed perfect harmony! A BIG thanks to Ms. Clearwater for all that she did to make the Spring Concert an epic showcase of talent!
Disney representatives with the big announcement
On Wednesday, Club 21 presented the Lion King Experience. After months of practice, and several cast changes, the kids put on an amazing show. Check out the article about them in the Daily Journal. After the students finished their performance, as part of their hard work and participation in the documentary being filmed for Nightline, the students were given a magical treat from Disney. The representatives from Disney are paying for the Club 21 students to attend the Lion King in Philadelphia and meet the cast on Wednesday, June 10! In addition, Mrs. Mackall was awarded her pick of any Disney play for next year's theater program free of charge. These two gifts from Disney were so generous, and were very appreciated.
We have another action packed week here at RM Bacon. On Tuesday, and Wednesday the Bacon Speaks program will be hosting Spelling Bee practices at RM Bacon. The practices will be held in the Bacon Gym from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Spelling Bee and final speeches from the Bacon Speaks crew will be held on Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 PM. The kids did an amazing job! Then we enjoyed dinner and music. In the final part of the program we honored two alumni (Andy Colon, Tia Riviera) for their service to the community. We closed the program with our Silent Auction. All of the proceeds for the evening benefit current RM Bacon students.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Do you know why we celebrate Memorial Day? Here is an excellent resource.
We had an excellent Fun Day and Olympic Day last Friday. The 4th and 5th graders did a phenomenal job of competing, and more importantly working as a team! At Fun Day, the students in K-3 got the opportunity to bounce, play and get wet on the slippery slides. A fun time was had by all!

Good luck to the 3rd graders this week as they take the End of the Year portion of the PARCC. We are hoping that everyone will be on time and present!
On Friday, Dr. Cook had two assemblies to discuss updates on discipline at RM Bacon. Traditionally, the end of the year presents many challenges for students, and we see a rise in minors, and major office discipline referrals. He challenged the students to break the cycle. During the assembly he reviewed the following:
Our rules are very simple... Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful.
Disruption comes in many forms, and the students shared what they have been seeing such as talking while the teacher is talking, getting out of seats without permission, and being disrespectful to other students and teachers.
We still have plenty of time left in the school year. We are focused on finishing out the year in the best way possible.
Respect all of our staff members the same.
We have a Tradition of Excellence! Let's make our parents, teachers, and community proud of RM Bacon Elementary!
Teacher Appreciation Week was a great success! Teachers were selected each day for early outs, They were treated to a breakfast by Dr. Cook on Thursday, and a luncheon by the HSA on Friday. One Wednesday of this week they will receive Free Massages from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM by Dr. Brooke.
