March 18 - 22, 2019

Bears,

We hope everyone had a nice week.  It's hard to believe the first day of spring is Wednesday. Well, maybe it's not so hard to believe after all - the temps are warmer, testing is coming up...all sure signs that we are rolling into the next season.  Not to mention spring break...ok, maybe that isn't exactly around the corner, but it's getting closer...

Weekly Recap

In addition to all the great things that happen here everyday, Friday was a sea of green at Bacon.  Some teachers and students really went all out to celebrate St. Patrick's Day in style.  Check out some of the pics below. Way to get into it!  It always makes school a little extra fun when we can - uh - let ourselves go from time to time (in a good way, of course).

Announcements

On Monday, we have our Celebrate Reading event here at Bacon.  It will run from 6-7:30, and it will be fun night of reading and hanging out together.  Bring your family to read with our Bacon family!

This Thursday is the district's Tech Showcase at Holly Heights from 5-6:30.  This is always a fun night - don't miss it!

Grades 3-5 are set to embark on our latest PD here at Bacon - Peer Labs.  The intro session is Friday.

Bacon is participating in the "Warming Hearts Program" put on by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.  Please see below for details on how to donate non-perishable items.  Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

March character-trait-of-the-month: fairness.  Some examples of fairness include playing by the rules, taking turns and sharing, being open-minded and listening to others, and treating all people fairly.

Fairness quote-of-the-week:  "Fairness is not an attitude.  It is a skill that must be developed and exercised" - Brit Hume.  Treating others fairly doesn't necessarily come naturally, and it might not always be easy.  Like anything else, we can get better at it.  Make a choice today that you'll be fair in your treatment of people, in all your dealings, and with yourself.

Staff, remember your why!

March 11 - 15, 2019

Bears,

RM Bacon Elementary School was all Dr. Seuss'd up this week.  From theme days to crazy looking food in the cafeteria, many of our staff members and students got in on the fun.  The focus on reading continues with our Celebrate Reading event at Bacon on March 18.  Flyers will be sent home next week.

Weekly Recap

To build on the national Read Across America Day, we celebrated for a whole week!  From Monday to Friday, every day had it's own theme - from socks to wacky clothing, many of our Bears participated.  It was fun seeing people go all out in support of reading.  Classroom teachers gave their lessons a Seuss twist (see a few of the pics below). In all, it was a fun week full of fun ways to promote reading awareness.

March 4 - 8, 2019

Bears,

RM Bacon Elementary had a full, fun week!  Check out the tons of pics from some of the events that took place.  Nice job all around - from students to staff - on a great week. Let's jump in...

Weekly Recap

On Monday, AbdulSaleem Hasan, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Field Services for the NJ Department of Education, and Leslie White-Coursey, superintendent of schools for Cumberland County, visited Bacon for the afternoon.  It was a great opportunity to meet some of the leaders of education in our state, and they left our school impressed with the caring educators and hard-working students that call Bacon home.  Great job, Bears!

At the board meeting later that night, Barbara Lore and Patti Banker were given their awards for being Teacher-of-the-Year and Education-Services-Provider-of-the-Year, respectively.  Congrats again to these two superstars for all they do and for being truly world-class educators and people.

On Thursday, we had our annual PBIS Pep Rally Assembly.  We honored students who made 2nd marking period honor roll, principal's list, and those students who earned student-of-the-month for February.

Also on Thursday, cast members from Lakeside Middle School's production of Beauty and the Beast stopped by for a visit.  Everyone looked great in character, and our Bears enjoyed meeting them and seeing the costumes.

On Friday, Jungle John came back to Bacon and entertained grades K-3 with a Dr. Seuss assembly.  This event had it all - a little reading, magic, crowd involvement, and lots of laughs.  We tentivelty have Jungle John penciled in for our annual Community Night.  Speaking of that, mark your calendars - this year's Community Night will be Tuesday, May 7th from 6-7:30 pm.

Announcements

Starting on Monday, we celebrate Read Across America.  Each day has a different theme.  Here's the schedule:

On Tuesday, Sue Bacon will be at...Bacon...for her final CAP visit.  Classroom teachers should already know if they are part of the visit.  If you are unsure, contact the office.  This is the rescheduled day from a few weeks ago.

Staff, we have a meeting on Thursday, and mid-marking period grades are due on Friday.

Our Wawa hoagie sale is still on.  See below, and feel free to call the school with any questions.

Staff, remember your why!

There's a reason for everything we do.  When a student is unusually quiet or doesn't "feel like" doing the work, it might be an opportunity to dig deeper.  Not all silence is defiance.
