Bacon Weekly - 9/15 - 19, 2025

Patriot Day

Bacon Bears,

We are BEARS (Be Excited About Reading in School)

Honoring Patriot Day & Building Routines

Last week marked our first full week of school, and our Bacon Bears are already getting into the rhythm of their daily routines. On Thursday, our students and staff proudly wore red, white, and blue to honor Patriot Day, showing their respect and remembrance for this important day in our nation’s history. It was wonderful to see our school community come together in unity and spirit.

Back to School Night – Tuesday, September 16 (6:00–7:00 PM)

We are thrilled to welcome families to our annual Back to School Night this Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.

Back to School Night is one of the most important events of the year—it’s a chance to build a strong partnership between school and home. When families and educators work together, children benefit from a powerful support system that helps them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. This evening allows you to:

  • Meet your child’s teachers and support staff

  • Learn about classroom routines, expectations, and curriculum

  • Understand how to best support your child’s learning at home

  • Ask questions, build relationships, and join our vibrant school community

Your presence sends a powerful message to your child: “Your education matters, and we are in this together.” We hope to see all our families on Tuesday evening as we kick off a fantastic school year!

Picture Day This Thursday

Picture Day will be held on Thursday, September 18th through Bassetti Photo. Forms have been sent home and are also available online at www.bassettiphoto.com (enter code BE25 for our school).
Please remember to dress your best and bring your brightest smiles!

Make-up Picture Day is already scheduled for November 13th, so mark your calendars if your child will be absent on Thursday.

Bacon Weekly - 9/8 - 9/12, 2025

Welcome Back

Bacon Bears,

“We are BEARS – Be Excited About Reading in Schools!”

What an amazing first week of school! We are thrilled to share that this was one of the best openings in recent memory. Our students returned with energy, enthusiasm, and smiles, and our staff worked hard to set the tone for a safe, positive, and successful year ahead.

We kicked things off with our introductory assemblies, where we reviewed our school-wide expectations, the importance of attendance, and our strong commitment to an anti-bullying culture. These first days set the foundation for the months to come, and we couldn’t be prouder of how our Bacon Bears have started the year.

Bacon Weekly - Welcome Back - 2025 - 2026

Summer Leadership Team

Bacon Bears,

We are BEARS – Be Excited About Reading in Schools!

Welcome back, Bacon Bears! After a restful and rejuvenating summer, it’s time to come together again for another year of learning, growth, and community. We are so excited to welcome both familiar faces and new members of our school family as we begin the 2025–26 school year.

The first day of school is Thursday, September 4, 2025. Please note our updated school times for the 2025–26 year:

  • 8:50 AM – First bell; students may enter the building (no earlier than 8:45). All students enter through the playground doors.

  • 9:10 AM – Late bell; homeroom begins. Students arriving after this time must sign in at the office for a late slip.

  • 3:35 PM – Bus and car dismissal (car line in the back).

  • 3:40 PM – Walker dismissal.

Arrival & Dismissal
Please follow established procedures. Cars may not use Third Street or Kates Blvd. for drop-off or pick-up. These are no-parking zones and may be monitored by law enforcement.

Building Access
All visitors must enter through the front doors, check in at the security desk with ID, and wear a guest badge. Only parents/guardians and their approved contacts may access students.

Parent Portal
Use the Parent Portal to view grades, schedules, transportation, and other updates. Click here. Bus passes will also be posted there the week before school opens.

Childcare Program
Before- and after-school care (Latch Key) runs 7:00–9:10 AM and 3:45–6:00 PM in the cafeteria. Contact Amanda DeVita at 856-327-7584 for enrollment.

First Day Packets
On September 4, students will bring home important information and forms. Please review and return paperwork promptly. Also, update the school with any changes to contact information during the year.

A Fresh Start for a Fresh Year

When you walk through the doors of Bacon School this fall, you’ll notice that our building has been refreshed and re-energized thanks to the hard work of Mr. Glenn and his crew. Here are just a few of the updates:

  • An updated, safer playground for our students to enjoy.

  • A brand-new Art/Science Room 4 to inspire creativity and exploration.

  • Fresh paint and deep cleaning throughout the building, giving our school a bright and welcoming look.

We are proud of the improvements and look forward to seeing how these changes will support both teaching and learning this year.

Attendance & Achievement Update

“Bear Tracks: Every Day Counts, Every Goal Matters.”

Attendance Spotlight

Last year, Millville Public Schools reduced the chronic absenteeism rate by 1.5%. The new district target is to reduce chronic absenteeism by another 3% during the 2025–26 school year, bringing the overall rate down from 31% to 29% by June 2026.

At Bacon, 74 students (24.42%) were chronically absent last year, defined as missing more than 18 days. This year, we are determined to lower that number and ensure our Bears are present, engaged, and thriving. Every day in school matters!

Strategic Focus of the Week: Mission

Our district mission is clear:

“Empower all learners to realize their full potential, define their own success, and make a positive impact.”

At Bacon, that means every child is encouraged to grow in their own way, discover their strengths, and use them to make a difference in their classrooms, families, and community.

Family Tip of the Week

Talk with your child about one goal they have for the school year—academic, personal, or social—and write it down together. Revisiting that goal often is a powerful way to stay motivated and connected.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to launch into the new school year together. Whether it’s exploring our updated facilities, celebrating student success, or connecting at Back to School Night, 2025–26 promises to be another year of growth, joy, and responsibility at Bacon School.

Let’s get ready to show the world what it means to be a Bacon Bear!
