A Special Message from a Former Bacon Bear

Mrs. Taylor and Amir

A few days ago, I received this heartfelt email from one of our former Bacon Bears, Amir Leake. He  visited our school and caught up with several of the Bacon Staff he remembered from the 2010's.  Here is is email:

Good morning Dr. Cook.

My name is Amir Leake, I'm an alumnus, class of 2012. It's a shock for me that it has been 12 years since the last time I was a Bacon Bear.

I wanted to thank you for the ways you have impacted life while I was at Bacon Elementary. There were two instances that stood out the most. First, I was potentially going to transfer to Wood School, because of our address at the time. My parents asked if I could still stay at the Bacon Elementary school, considering it was my last year before moving onto Middle School. Your response "Amir will always be a Bacon Bear and he is here to stay" always remained in the back of my mind. Second, I was being bothered by another student, and you stepped in to make sure that peace was made. We ended up becoming friends for the rest of the year, even after they moved.

Mrs. Gandy, Mr. D and Amir

Bacon Elementary School was a highlight of my childhood. I still remember so many teachers and programs! Being a part of Mrs. Bingham's "Dare to be Fit" program, becoming a Student Leader, being a captain of my Hockey team, Mr. Drewnowski's flag football advice, Mrs. Gandy's Magic Tree House books, and so much more. I also heard many of the teachers are still there, which makes me smile.

I'll be in the area for a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and I was hoping to drop by and say hello. Maybe pay a quick visit to any teachers who are available. I will be adhering to any visiting protocols the school may have. I'm excited to look at the school. I come far from Sussex County, so visiting Cumberland County is a treat as I haven't been in the area for over 10 years.

Thank you again for everything you did for me and so many others. I’d be grateful for the chance to reconnect.

In regards,

Amir Leake

Hearing from alumni like Amir reminds us that the work we do each day has a lasting impact. Once a Bacon Bear, always a Bacon Bear

Let’s have another great week filled with learning, safety, and Bacon Bear pride!
