March 16 - March 20, 2026

1st and 4th grade Bear Buddies

Bacon Bears,

We are BEARS! (Be Excited About Reading in School)

It was certainly a busy week at Bacon! Between arrival challenges and conducting our Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT), our staff had to respond quickly and adapt throughout the week. Despite these challenges, our students, staff, and families once again demonstrated what makes Bacon special which is working together, supporting one another, and overcoming obstacles as a community.

One of the highlights of the week was our First Grade classes participating in their monthly Bear Buddy sessions with their Fourth Grade friends. This program continues to be a wonderful example of the power of literacy, mentoring, and building a strong community of learners at Bacon. Seeing our older students support and encourage our younger Bears is always something special.

Looking ahead to next week, we have a few fun events planned. On Tuesday, we encourage everyone to wear green in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. On Friday, we will celebrate “Knock Your Socks Off” for World Down Syndrome Awareness Day by wearing fun and colorful socks. We will also hold our monthly Attendance Awards to recognize students who have demonstrated strong attendance.

Thank you to everyone for another great week at Bacon! ~ Dr. Cook

A Reminder About Birthday Treats and Student Safety

As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of all students, we have noticed an increase in store-bought birthday treats and items from places such as Dunkin’ being brought into classrooms for celebrations (Or in the morning at Arrival). While we certainly understand families wanting to celebrate special occasions, many of these products are not guaranteed to be peanut/tree-nut free and may also contain common allergens such as milk, eggs, wheat, or soy. Because we have several students at Bacon with severe food allergies, even small amounts or cross-contact can create serious health risks.

After Spring Break (April 13), we will be returning to our Healthy School celebration approach, where birthday treats and celebrations are coordinated through the cafeteria, and food from home or other places may only be consumed by the student bringing it in. This process helps ensure that items are safe for students while also being more cost-effective for families.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep all of our students safe. If you have any questions about birthday celebrations or safe treat options, please feel free to contact the main office.
